I've already started my next painting, another poppy one!
Firecracker Lillies is my latest watercolour. After masking out the flowers, buds and stems the background was created using turquoise, sap green and lemon yellow. I glazed the colours in wet-into-wet, about five layers. After removing the masking fluid, the lily petals were painted mainly wet-into-wet using a mix of scarlet lake and lemon yellow, with a touch of perylene maroon for the darker area. The spots on the lillies were added in two layers, the first being a mixture of scarlet lake and ultramarine blue, then the second layer a mixture of of these two colours with some sap green to create a darker more intense colour.

Its been a little while since I updated this site because I've been so busy. I've had a really nasty flu bug for the last week that has also slowed me up somewhat as I have spent the majority of the week in bed, only getting up yesterday for the first time. Its been a long time since I have been as ill as I was this week.
Mellis Arts was launched a couple of weeks ago now and the launch night was a resounding success with many, many people attending the private view and some sales were made which always good news for artists. This is a permanent exhibition so can be visited at anytime by anyone. Monday 28th May sees the beginning of the week long Stowmarket Art Exhibition with the private view on Monday evening from 7.30pm so this weekend will see me manning the Mellis Courtyard Gallery and preparing my paintings to take into Stowmarket as well as recovering from flu! I have got a new watercolour that I completed a few weeks ago waiting to make its first appearance on this website - coming soon! |
